MICTEC was founded by UniMAP’s Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Professor Dr. Zaliman Sauli, who recognized the critical need to elevate UniMAP’s semiconductor research capabilities. His vision was to create a focused Center of Excellence to accelerate Malaysia’s strategic goal of becoming a global leader in the semiconductor industry. The initial momentum was driven by shared inspiration, with Associate Professor Dr. Asral Bahari appointed as MICTEC’s inaugural Head, establishing the strategic direction and culture of excellence.

Today, MICTEC operates as a strategic hub for micro-system technology, bringing together dedicated experts from academia and industry.

• Core Research Team: Our center is powered by 45 research fellows from UniMAP, who form the backbone of our innovation and research efforts.
• Global Network: We have fostered a robust network of over 50 visiting research fellows from esteemed local and international institutions and industry leaders. These collaborations include key semiconductor industry players such as Altera, Oppstar OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and SMD Semiconductor, ensuring our work remains relevant and cutting-edge.
